The "Middle Part" consists of five chapters, primarily organizing and reviewing the overall research status of ancient Chinese poetry theory, ancient Chinese prose theory, ancient Chinese fiction theory, and ancient Chinese drama theory. This review basically adopts two methods: first, a diachronic perspective is used to summarize the "trends" of each subfield's theoretical research, thereby confirming the parabolic discourse movement of 20th-century ancient literary theory. Then, a synchronic perspective is employed to review important issues in each "subfield theoretical research" and conduct corresponding academic reflections.
The "Substantive Analysis" also ensures that each topic can be elaborated on both diachronically and synchronically, with the "problem awareness" being the consistent thread. Whether the academic history framework adopted in the "Topic Research" part, with problems as the core, can organically integrate with the consistently maintained "problem awareness" is precisely where the book puts great effort.
