Patient's question:
My last menstrual period was on November 9th, and I have been taking my temperature regularly. On December 12th, my lowest reading was 36.1 degrees Celsius. On December 29th, I took a pregnancy test and it showed a faint positive result. Could it be that I am pregnant? How should I calculate the number of days pregnant I am? How many days pregnant am I now? When should I go to the hospital for my first ultrasound?Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and may all your wishes come true!
First follow-up question: I’ve been feeling uncomfortable in my abdomen these past two days, sometimes with a slight, crisscrossing pain on both sides of my abdomen, and my lower back also feels sore. Is this normal?
Doctor's answer:
Generally, pregnancy duration is calculated from the first day of the last menstrual period. You should be about 53-54 days pregnant. However, a weak positive test on December 29th suggests you should visit the hospital for a check-up. There are a couple of possibilities: one is that fertilization occurred later, resulting in a later actual pregnancy than expected, and the other is that there may be issues with luteal function, poor embryo development, or low hCG levels in the body, which could explain the weak positive urine test. Mild lower abdominal pain and backaches are common early pregnancy symptoms, but it's important to monitor for vaginal bleeding. If bleeding occurs, absolute bed rest and medication for fetal preservation are necessary. Abstinence from sexual activity is recommended for the first three months.
