Features: As a classic television English course from the 1980s, this series has taken China by storm with its brand-new functional teaching approach and rich, innovative teaching methods. The series employs a cyclical teaching method, offering extensive listening and speaking exercises with diverse topics, making it easy and fun to learn. It effectively improves learners' oral and listening skills. Additionally, through flexible and varied situational teaching, it immerses learners in British society, allowing them to experience its customs and culture. To meet the needs of English enthusiasts in China, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press has collaborated closely with the BBC, bringing together Chinese and foreign experts to reorganize and arrange the original material. The renowned Chinese host Yang Lan and Kathy Flower, the BBC's English teaching advisor, have provided fresh interpretations of the teaching difficulties and key points in the program.
The series is divided into two volumes, each accompanied by 10 VCDs. The revised "Learning English with Me" retains many of the strengths of the original version. First, it still consists of 60 episodes, covering 60 themes that include 10 common language functions in daily life. Every 10 lessons focus on similar language functions, enabling learners to review and learn new knowledge. Second, it preserves the original situational dramas filmed by the BBC's "Learning English with Me" production team. The vivid and humorous performances fully reflect the humor of the British, combined with authentic British pronunciation, offering a true audiovisual experience. Third, interspersed between the dramas are real-life dialogues and songs related to the situational language functions, helping learners expand their language knowledge. Fourth, in 40 of the episodes, we have included a documentary titled "Follow Me to Britain," introducing learners to British culture and giving them a sense of being there. Fifth, in the remaining 20 episodes, we have interspersed four series of short dramas with thrilling and engaging plots.
The revised "Learning English with Me" also adds new features. The 60 episodes of the video program are hosted by the renowned host Yang Lan (for the first 30 episodes) and Kathy Flower from the BBC (for the last 30 episodes), with more detailed and up-to-date explanations based on the original video program to meet the needs of current learners. Additionally, we have added two student roles to the revised version, designing interactive exercises and speaking activities between teachers and students, thereby enhancing the program's interactivity and communicative nature, which greatly helps learners improve their communicative skills. The revised "Learning English with Me" is divided into two volumes, each accompanied by 10 VCDs, and is suitable for English learners at the beginner level. We hope the new "Learning English with Me" will bring a fresh experience and new gains to all English learners.
