Features: Why do so many outstanding photographers choose him to create black and white photographs? Why are most of the photographs exhibited abroad made by him? This book collects classic cases of black and white photography made by Zhang Zuo for 27 renowned photographers such as Xu Xiaobing, Hou Bo, He Yanguang, Xie Hailong, and Huang Wen, revealing the "secrets" of darkroom production for black and white photographic works. There is a significant difference between black and white photographs and black and white photographic works. It is fair to say that black and white photographic works are further processed in the darkroom based on good black and white photographs. Generally, three necessary conditions are required for production. The first is to have a good negative, which should be properly exposed. The second is the darkroom technician's understanding and emotional connection to the content and form of the photographer's work, especially in terms of form, arranging contrasts and layers of black, white, and gray according to the expressive content. The third is to mobilize all technical means and skills of darkroom printing for precise printing. Currently, there are some books in China that discuss darkroom production, but most of them cover basic knowledge such as equipment, consumables, and procedures. However, books that delve into the interpretation of negatives and the reflection on photographic content, followed by precise production, are still rare. Especially, books that provide detailed "blueprints" through dozens of specific cases of famous photographic works and explain them in an easy-to-understand manner are almost non-existent. At the request of many black and white photographers, we invited Zhang Zuo, a professional darkroom photographer in China, to write this book based on his more than ten years of experience. It can be said that this book reveals the "secrets" of darkroom production for black and white photographic works.
