Patient's question:
Patient Gender: During the treatment of vaginitis, why does clitoral itching occur? If the menstrual interval is too long, can the medication be taken twice within one cycle? Will resistance develop if the condition is not treated for a long time?Doctor's answer:
Hello: Vaginal candidiasis is generally treated with topical medications, which do not cause drug resistance. A 2% to 4% soda solution can be used for daily rinsing of the external genitalia and vagina or for sitz baths. A 10-day course is recommended to alter the pH and create conditions unfavorable for the survival of Candida. Then, Nystatin can be used, such as in powder, tablet, suppository, or ointment form, inserted into the vagina or applied locally. The dosage is 100,000 to 200,000 units per time, once nightly, with a 10 to 14-day course. The external genitalia can be treated with 3% miconazole ointment for better results. Since this condition is stubborn and prone to recurrence, local treatment is generally preferred. Oral Nystatin tablets can also be taken, with a dosage of 500,000 to 1,000,000 units per day, three times daily, for a 7 to 10-day course. Follow-up is then required, and the condition is considered cured only after three consecutive negative results.
