Lifestyle Weekly was founded in Shanghai on October 11, 1925. From 1926 onwards, it was edited by Zou Taofen, achieving a circulation of 150,000 copies and becoming a highly influential publication. In his inaugural editorial, Zou Taofen wrote, “The attitude of this journal is as if we invite a few friends to gather every Sunday during your leisure time to chat in a relaxed and lively manner, free from constraints, avoiding stiffness, and striving for simplicity, elegance, and.”
In 1995, coinciding with the centennial of Zou Taofen’s birth, the Shenghuo·Dushu·Xinzhi Sanlian Bookstore inherited the legacy of Lifestyle and resumed publishing The Three Weekly on January 14. In the “Editor’s Note” for that issue, General Editor Dong Xiuyu wrote, “Today, we are in a great era at the turn of the century, and this is our fortune. How to reflect this era through the ordinary life stories of the common people, highlight the new social issues that people widely care about, and provide fresh life concepts and information is the key challenge we must strive to meet.”
Over the past decade, The Three Weekly has remained a faithful chronicler of the new era’s development, responding with keen insight to new trends, ideas, and currents. It hased emerging hot topics, new generations, and new lifestyles, committed to delivering the fastest, richest, and most engaging weekly news coverage. This book is a collection of recollections contributed by past and present participants of The Three Weekly, along with some precious archival materials from its founding.
