Features: Henri de Saint-Simon (1760–1825) was a prominent French thinker and one of the most famous representatives of utopian socialism. Marx and Engels ranked Henri de Saint-Simon alongside Charles Fourier and Robert Owen as one of the three great utopian socialists. Henri de Saint-Simon strongly opposed the unproductive feudal aristocracy and military class, believing that society should be led by industrialists and scientists. He also proposed a series of socialist-inspired ideas, such as the implementation of a universal labor obligation system, planned economy, and distribution according to labor. However, due to the immature historical conditions of the time, Henri de Saint-Simon's theories also had significant limitations, primarily manifested in his advocacy of retaining private ownership and promoting the idea of peace as the sole means of achieving social transformation. The original edition of this selected works was translated from a Russian version, and for this reedition, it was revised according to the 1966 French edition of The Complete Works of Saint-Simon and supplemented with several articles that were not included in the Russian translation.
