What should I do if my menstrual period extends after getting an IUD?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose:
Hello, doctors, and hello, everyone. My last miscarriage was in July 2004. After that, I had an IUD inserted. Since then, my menstrual cycle has become longer. Previously, it lasted only 5 days, but now it takes 8 to 9 days every month. The bleeding starts on the first day, then it seems to stop on the second day, and only on the third day does it truly begin again. It usually lasts until around the eighth day. I have seen both Chinese and Western medicine doctors, and I have had the IUD checked, which is said to be normal.
Is it normal for the cycle to last this long?
Thank you very much to the doctors and everyone for providing valuable methods and suggestions. I will be truly grateful.^_^

Doctor's answer:

Your condition is caused by the intrauterine device (IUD). The IUD is a foreign object, and the body needs time to adapt after it is inserted into the uterus. Most women using an IUD for contraception experience no adverse reactions, while a few may develop some side effects and complications. If you experience lower back and sacral pain, lower abdominal discomfort, bloody discharge, spotting, irregular vaginal bleeding, increased menstrual flow, or shorter menstrual cycles after inserting the IUD, mild symptoms generally do not require treatment and will gradually subside or disappear on their own as the body adapts. Severe symptoms may require medical treatment. If the symptoms do not improve after treatment, the IUD should be removed and alternative contraception methods should be considered.
