Features: Developed based on the computer basic education curriculum system. This textbook fully adheres to the guiding principles of the "Computer Basic Education Curriculum System for Higher Education Institutions in China" proposed by the National Association for Computer Basic Education in Higher Education. With full consideration of the connection and differences between computer basic education in higher education institutions and the computer basic education that has been promoted and popularized in secondary schools in China, this textbook is tailored to the characteristics of students in business and economics and liberal arts majors, focusing on popularizing the basic knowledge of information science and technology and introducing new technologies, aiming to establish a teaching approach that fosters students' interest and active learning. The textbook begins with an introduction to the basic theories of information science and an overview of information technology, with the application of information technology as the main thread. Tailored to the characteristics of students in liberal arts, economics, and management majors, it forms a relatively complete, foundational, and closely integrated knowledge system of information science and technology in line with real-world society. This textbook is suitable for first-year university students in the above-mentioned disciplines for computer basic education. To fully implement the guiding principles of the "Computer Basic Education Curriculum System for Higher Education Institutions in China," we have also developed textbooks for the second stage of computer basic education courses for science and engineering majors, arts majors, and business and economics majors, forming a relatively complete series of textbooks. [Preface] The reform of computer basic education teaching in higher education is an eternal topic. With the continuous improvement of social informatization, the demand for computer applications has been expanding. As young people in the information age, cultivating computer application skills has become a crucial foundational task for career competition and career development. However, the traditional computer application basic education model in higher education appears quite outdated, with a teaching model that has focused on simple computer basic knowledge and Microsoft's office application software for many years. The education of application skills has lagged behind social application levels, making the education of fundamental theories and skills lack vitality. In 2004, the expert group of the National Association for Computer Basic Education in Higher Education provided clear recommendations for the reform of computer basic education teaching in higher education. They emphasized a computer basic education model that prioritizes "supporting the cultivation of application skills with foundational theoretical education as the main goal," advocating a teaching plan that focuses on "cultivating basic operational skills with student self-directed learning as the primary mode, supported by visual platforms, and content selection based on disciplinary classification." This guiding principle has shifted the reform of computer basic education teaching into an active education model centered on quality education, making the purpose of computer basic education clearer and its effectiveness more evident. The textbook written by the Department of Information Science and Technology at the School of Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, was developed under the guidance of the "Computer Basic Education Curriculum System for Higher Education Institutions in China" in 2004, based on the "Research Project on the Reform of Computer Basic Education for Finance and Economics Majors" funded by the Ministry of Education in 2004. It summarizes the department's extensive experience in computer basic education. Our university began using this textbook in the fall of 2005, and by the time readers see this book, it has already been revised into its second edition. This textbook strictly adheres to the guidance of the expert group of the National Association for Computer Basic Education in Higher Education, closely aligning with the characteristics of economics, management, and liberal arts majors and teaching, supported by the basic knowledge of information science and the fundamental concepts of information technology. Through the introduction of the basic knowledge of computer system hardware and software, it aims to establish a foundation for students to think and act using computers to solve practical problems. The textbook completely breaks away from the traditional model of constantly upgrading with a specific software system, highlighting the characteristics of students independently learning operational skills under the guidance of theoretical foundations. With the thorough reform of the assessment methods for operational skills, students' autonomy and initiative in learning will undoubtedly be fully stimulated. This textbook is the crystallization of the collective efforts of all teachers in the Department of Information Science and Technology at the School of Science and Technology, Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. It was born with the help of Professor Zhao Nianzhen from the former Department of Economic Information Management, under the kind care and strong support of President Zhang Jiaxing and Gao Zhengping, and with the personal assistance of Vice President Zhang Yun and Director Chen Jinyan of the Academic Affairs Office. Here, on behalf of every teacher in the writing team, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the leaders and teachers who are concerned about the reform of computer basic education! It is due to their support that our work has been at the forefront of reform in higher education institutions nationwide. This book is edited and compiled by Professor Huabin and Editor-in-Chief Jinzhong, with Associate Professor Zhang Yanling, Zhang Hui, Zhang Lei, Chen Fan, and Teacher Zhao Fuqiang contributing to the writing of corresponding chapters. Teacher Wu Nuo is responsible for the overall editing and layout of the book. I sincerely appreciate their efforts! Due to the urgency of time and the limitations of my abilities, there may inevitably be some issues and shortcomings in the book. I hope that students and teachers will not hesitate to provide feedback and corrections, enabling our textbook to receive greater recognition from peers after its official publication.
