Should cervical erosion be treated with medication or surgery

Patient's question:

Consult some questions about cervical erosion, is it better to take medicine or have surgery.

Doctor's answer:

Hello: How is the treatment determined, mainly by actively assessing the severity of your condition. There are many methods for treating cervical erosion, and appropriate choices can be made based on the degree of erosion. The main methods are as follows:
(1)Medication: For small erosion areas with superficial inflammation, the following medication methods can be used:
① 10–20% silver nitrate: Applied locally once a week, with 2–4 applications constituting a course.
② Potassium permanganate: Applied locally after menstruation, followed by a repeat application after 1–2 months. When using these medications, caution must be exercised to prevent burns to the surrounding vaginal wall. Additionally, sterilization should be noted during medication to prevent reinfection.
(2)Physical Therapy: Used for larger erosion areas with deeper inflammatory infiltration.
① Electrocautery: A specially designed electrocautery is used to burn the erosion tissue, causing it to necrose and fall off. It must reach a certain depth to ensure effective treatment.
② Cryotherapy: A specially designed rapid freezing device is used to freeze, necrose, and detach the diseased tissue on the cervical erosion surface. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryoprotectant, with the cryoprobe temperature dropping to -196°C. It is placed on the surface of the cervix to freeze and necrose the erosion tissue, leading to its detachment and the regeneration of new squamous epithelium. One session is typically sufficient for cure. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, though some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain.
③ Laser Therapy: Carbon dioxide laser treatment is commonly used. A specially designed laser applicator is used to irradiate the erosion tissue, causing it to carbonize, form a scab, and fall off, followed by the regeneration of new squamous epithelium. One session is usually sufficient for cure. No special discomfort is experienced during the procedure.
