Features: This collection of essays brings together articles by the author on related music issues that have been involved in debates and disputes over the past 20 years. Some of the articles have been included in other works on different themes by the author, while another part has been collected into this volume after being. There are also a few articles that were published again after being finalized due to non-academic reasons. Additionally, there are a handful of articles that were published publicly after being finalized due to non-academic reasons. This time, under the general title "Debate and Exploration," they are compiled and published for three reasons: First, to gather the author's continuous attention and reflections on a series of academic issues that sparked debates and disputes during the reform and opening-up process, providing a comprehensive review and organization, perhaps helping readers to feel a specific passion beating in their pulse. Second, to provide readers and peers interested in the study of Chinese music trends in the new era with a relatively concentrated collection for easy reference, avoiding the hassle of searching everywhere. Third, most of the articles in the collection are included as they were originally published, with only minor typographical errors corrected. A small number of essays, however, were modified or edited by the editorial department or by the author himself due to space limitations or other reasons at the time of publication, resulting in some deviations from the author's original draft. This has weakened the completeness of the meaning, the coherence of the tone, and the clarity of expression. For this reason, the opportunity of this compilation and publication is taken to restore the original manuscript form. However, the articles published before October 1998 (excluding "This is the day I learned to use a computer") are included as they were originally published because there were no computer backups or handwritten drafts (the drafts were all sent to the editorial departments of the publications).
