Patient's question:
What are the causes of infertility? How should it be checked? We have been married for 3 years this year, but we still don't have children. I suspect that one of us may have infertility.Doctor's answer:
Hello, there are many reasons for male infertility, mainly including the following aspects:1. Abnormal semen: Such as azoospermia (no sperm), or a low sperm count with reduced motility and abnormal morphology.
2. Reproductive organ infections: Repeated urinary tract infections, such as urethritis, seminal vesiculitis, orchitis, epididymitis, and prostatitis, can damage reproductive organs and affect semen quality.
3. Testicular abnormalities: Undescended testicles not only cause infertility but can also lead to malignancy; damage to the primordial germ cells during fetal development due to adverse environmental factors; and acquired testicular injury.
4. Obstruction of sperm transport: Tuberculosis of the epididymis and vas deferens can block the vas deferens, preventing sperm from passing through. Sexual dysfunctions such as impotence and premature ejaculation also prevent sperm from entering the female vagina.
5. Hydrocele: Hydrocele compresses the blood circulation of the testicles, which can lead to testicular infection or atrophy.
6. Endocrine factors: Male endocrine disorders, such as thyroid and adrenal gland dysfunction, low testosterone, or elevated follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) or prolactin, can cause oligospermia or azoospermia, leading to infertility.
