Features: [Editor's Recommendation] The heroic era in epics is now distant, but the fables of heroes seeking and opening, seizing and defending, and struggling to wander and return to their homeland still hold profound meaning.
1. This book includes fourteen myths, stories, legends, epics, and elegies. The first seven are from the Sumerian period, and the last seven are from the Akkadian period.
2. Each translation is preceded by a preface from the translator, providing brief explanations on the original text, translation, references, and content for readers and researchers.
3. The original cuneiform tablets of the translated works are all poetic, and the translations have been adjusted slightly for Chinese, with some using rhymes and adjusted rhythms, while most are in free verse while preserving the original poetic lines.
4. The "Notes" are mostly taken from English and Japanese translations, with individual citations omitted. The notes added by the Chinese translator are minimal, except for Gilgamesh, which are also unmarked.
