Zhou Guoping was born in Shanghai in July 1945. He graduated from the Philosophy Department of Peking University in 1968; in 1978, he enrolled in the Philosophy Department of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, where he later obtained master's and doctoral degrees in philosophy. Since 1981, he has been working at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. His major works include: Contemporary Philosophy of the Soviet Union (co-authored), Nietzsche: At the Turning Point of the Century, Man and Eternity, Nietzsche and Metaphysics, Ambiguous Passion, Only One Life, I Live Today, Love and Loneliness, etc.; translated works include: On the Narrative Method of Dialectics, The Decline of the West, Philosophy in the Age of Greek Tragedy, etc. His prose excels in discussing philosophy through a literary lens, such as the meaning of life, death, sexuality and love, self, soul, and transcendence. He devoutly explores the universal dilemmas in the spiritual lives of modern people, pays attention to the journey and trials of the soul, and weaves philosophy into everyday emotions, making it profound yet accessible, simple yet insightful.
