Doctor's answer:
Cervical polyps are one manifestation of chronic cervical inflammation and are more common in married women. They are formed due to long-term stimulation by chronic inflammation, causing local mucosal hyperplasia in the cervical canal to protrude outward toward the external cervical os.Guidelines:
Polyps are usually one or more in number, red in color, and shaped like tongues. Their diameter is generally less than 1 cm, with a soft and fragile texture, making them prone to bleeding. Polyps with long and slender stalks are easily overlooked because more than one-third of patients lack obvious symptoms and are only discovered during a doctor's examination. Even when symptoms are present, they are usually mild, primarily characterized by small amounts of bright red spotting or minor bleeding after sexual intercourse. In some cases, this bleeding may be mistaken for "menstruation." The bleeding volume in a few individuals may resemble that of a menstrual period. Some patients may have yellowish or foul-smelling vaginal discharge, with or without blood streaks. Additionally, polyps may manifest as postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, while unmarried patients often present with a palpable mass protruding from the vaginal opening.
