Chronicle of Literature during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms

Author: Zhou Zhiyuan
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2001-10-01
Features: This Chronicle sets the boundaries of literature during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period, starting from Emperor Xizong of Tang's first year of Qiyuan (885) and ending in the fourth year of Taipingguo (979) in the Northern Han, which was conquered and became part of the Northern Song Dynasty. The selected writers are primarily based on records from Complete Tang Poems, Complete Tang Prose, Biographies of Talented Men of the Tang Dynasty, the Two Five Dynasties Histories, and Annals of the Ten Kingdoms. The included writers can be roughly categorized into four types: 1. Those whose collected works have been passed down, and whose life stories can be thoroughly examined or roughly outlined. 2. Those whose works are scattered and incomplete but still survive, with their life stories largely verifiable. 3. Those whose surviving works are limited, but according to Song Dynasty bibliographies, their writings were originally substantial, and their life stories can be largely verified. 4. Those whose surviving works are very few, with life stories difficult to ascertain, and their era of life can only be determined based on existing historical records.
