Features: Literary history is an important discipline within the overall field of literary studies. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, Chinese literary histories published by collective efforts of major colleges and universities, research institutions, and individual experts have each had their own characteristics, some of which have had significant influence. However, there is still a lack of a comprehensive multi-volume literary history that provides detailed discussions. To address this shortcoming, in accordance with the arrangements of the National Philosophy and Social Sciences "Six-Five" Plan, the Institute of Literature of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences has organized relevant units and experts to compile the fourteen-volume Comprehensive History of Chinese Literature, with the aim of serving as a reference book for literary research, university teaching, and other cultural work.
