Editor's Recommendation: On January 27, 1902, he graduated from the Mining and Road School. He applied for a scholarship to study in Japan and was approved by the Jiangnan Military Training Office. From mid-February to mid-March, he returned home for a visit. On March 24, he boarded a ship in Nanjing, passing through Shanghai to cross the East China Sea to study in Japan. On April 4, he arrived in Yokohama, Japan, and then transferred to Tokyo. In late April, he enrolled in the ordinary department of the Hongwen School in Tokyo. In November, he, along with Xu Shouchang, Tao Chengzhang, and others, formed the Zhejiang Association in Tokyo and decided to publish the monthly magazine "Zhejiang Tide." During the school year, he often "went to meeting halls, visited bookstores, attended gatherings, and listened to speeches," participating in various national and democratic revolutionary activities of Chinese students in Japan.
