Hu Qiaojiu Collection (2)

Features: When the second volume of Collected Works of Hu Qiaojiu was handed over for typesetting, Comrade Hu Qiaojiu had passed away, and we could not see its publication. During the editing process, he originally wanted to write a preface for this volume, but due to his worsening condition, he was unable to do so. This is truly a great loss. Unlike the first volume, which is a collection of publicly published commentaries and articles, more than half of the articles in the second volume are speeches delivered at Party conferences and are now being published for the first time after being compiled. Comrade Hu Qiaojiu attached great importance to the editing of this volume's manuscripts, believing it to be the most intellectually significant of his three-volume collected works. The selection of topics, categorization, and revision of the articles in this volume were carried out under his direct guidance and were personally approved by him. Only a few titles and textual refinements were not submitted for his review in time (these titles are marked with an asterisk). In accordance with his wishes, this volume is divided into two parts based on the content of the articles: the first part (which is contiguous with the first part of the first volume and is called the second part) belongs to the section on Party history, while the second part (called the third part) belongs to the section on theory and policy. Most of these articles are speeches and writings by Comrade Hu Qiaojiu as the leader of the central ideological and publicity front, delivered while he was responsible for drafting important central documents and guiding ideological and publicity work. Most of them were produced during the great historical turning point of the Party in 1978 and in the years that followed. These articles provide many incisive explanations and discussions on the right and wrong aspects of important experiences, lessons, theoretical, and policy issues in the development of the Party's history. Especially noteworthy is the sharp and profound analysis of the "Cultural Revolution" and the "leftist" errors made by the Party before it. In many respects, these articles reflect the understanding of the central Party committee (such as Some Issues Regarding the Formulation of Class Struggle in the Socialist Period and Several Issues on the Current Ideological Front, which have been included in the selected important documents of the Party since the Third Plenary Session). Readers will see that many of the wise ideas in these articles not only play an important guiding role in the study of Party history, national history, and Mao Zedong Thought but also provide valuable insights into the formation and development of the theory and line of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. It should be said that the entire Collected Works of Hu Qiaojiu is a precious spiritual legacy left to the Chinese people by this outstanding Marxist theorist, one that deserves our serious study and inheritance.
