Features: The Age of FDR is a fascinating "chronicle." It vividly recreates the shining image of the nation and its leaders during the birth of modern America. With incisive prose and the craftsmanship and depth of a novelist, Doris Kearns Goodwin presents readers with a magnificent tapestry of FDR's White House and the destiny of the United States, filling the void in the history of America under FDR's leadership. Goodwin demonstrates her dual mastery to a broad audience: on one hand, the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt she portrays shine like an eternal monument from a distant era; on the other hand, their images remain as vivid as yesterday. —Christoph Lehmann-Haupt, The New York Times
