Guangzhou: Developing economic center of South China

Author: Zuo Zheng
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: This book conducts preliminary research on several important issues, including the history, positioning, and expansion of the central city of Guangzhou, urban industrial adjustment, economic internationalization, stimulating the growth of private investment and high-tech industries, and the reshaping of central city functions. Nearly half of the chapters have previously been published as thematic papers and have received attention from both academia and practical sectors. They have also been honored with awards and recognition as outstanding social science academic achievements by the municipal party committee, municipal government, provincial, and municipal authorities. Based on these papers, the latest achievements completed in the past two years have been added, expanding the content into this book. Although the book explores various aspects of Guangzhou's economic development, due to limited research conditions and personal knowledge, most of the studies are at a macro level, with little focus on the operations of enterprises and individual household economies that constitute the micro foundation of the urban economy. Moreover, even at the macro level, some areas such as urban population and employment, urban housing, urban finance, and urban transportation are either not yet thoroughly explored or are newly entered fields that the author has just begun to investigate, and thus have not been included in this book.
