"Jue Shui Ji"

Author: Chen Pingyuan
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-04-01
Features: This collection of essays is divided into four volumes. The first volume consists of relatively well-structured essays, serving as the prototype of Jiu Shui Ji (A Scoop of Water) and better reflecting the original writing intent. Unfortunately, three of them have already been included in Beida Spirit and Other Essays due to their connection with Peking University. The second volume lacks a fixed format, with essays published as they were written, supplemented by reviews on Shudao (Reading) and Sanlian (Shanghai Joint Publishing House). This approach reflects a unique sentiment—to reveal certain cultural concepts amidst chaos. The first six essays in the third volume were originally published under the title Major Books, Minor Introductions in the Literary Contention magazine. The rest are mostly fragments about the author's own writings, with many explaining writing strategies and reflections on the mindset. The fourth volume, titled Random Thoughts, covers education, academia, and culture, either filling in gaps or extending themes, and can be seen as the underlying tone of the aforementioned book reviews.
