Features: The initial expression of bibliographic information theory is bibliographic communication theory, which is closely related to bibliographic cybernetics. Its origins can be traced back to the social epistemology of Shera and Egan in the 1950s, influenced by the Soviet scientific communication ideas of the 1960s, developed in the 1970s, and incorporated into the teaching of cataloging in higher education in the 1980s. Bibliographic information theory is a new idea that traditional cataloging work embraces the new technological revolution. Its emergence is considered a complete revolution in cataloging theory, ending the history of foreign cataloging where specific bibliographic achievements were the core. Its significance lies not only in creating the new term "bibliographic information" but more importantly in finding a new foundation for cataloging, shaking the traditional thought system of cataloging.
