Depth and Breadth: A Collection of Poems and Prose by Xi Chuan

Features: This is a book I have long been looking forward to. It is neither a poetry collection, nor an essay collection, nor an academic paper collection. It is a person's ramblings on various subjects. But it is still not a completed book. However, with this book, I have a possibility to engage in a humble dialogue with the people I respect now and in the past. But I do not count on future readers. Since writing "Homage" in 1992, I have changed my writing style. Although our publishing industry has become so booming that there is not enough time for seriousness, I have never had the opportunity to showcase my recent writings. Some readers who are familiar with my past works tend to think that what I write now is chaotic, but I know what I am doing. I was searching for myself and ended up finding many versions of myself. People's Literature Publishing House published a "Selected Poems of Xi Chuan" in 1997, which was compiled in 1996. Later, that book was renamed "Poems of Xi Chuan" and republished in 1999. This book is completely different from that one. Hunan Literature and Art Publishing House published my "So It Goes" in 1997, which included several of my long poems. However, that book had a limited print run. When including those long poems, I made some revisions in specific places. My views on poetry are different from many others, and perhaps I am wrong. – Xi Chuan
