Comintern. Records of the Communist International and the Comintern (Bolshevik) and the Chinese Revolution Series Volume 34: The Comintern (Bolshevik) and the Communist International and the National Revolutionary Movement of China 1926--1927 (Upper and Lower)

Author: Research Institute of the History of the Chinese Communist Party
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1998-11-01
Features: This volume of the document collection includes 268 documents, most of which are published for the first time. It mainly consists of meeting records of the Central Political Bureau of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolshevik) and the Presidium of the Executive Committee of the Communist International discussing China-related issues; telegrams and letters exchanged by Stalin, Trotsky, Bukharin, Zinoviev, and others on the Chinese revolution; meeting records of the Far Eastern Bureau of the Executive Committee of the Communist International (based in Shanghai); reports by the Bobrov Mission on the situation in South China and the "320 Incident"; Soviet and Republican telegrams and letters, as well as records of conversations and correspondence between Soviet and Communist International leaders and Nationalist Party figures such as Hu Min and Shao Lizi. These documents record a series of major events in China during this period as seen by the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolshevik) and the Communist International, reflecting the focus, objectives, and evolution of their policies toward China. They also reveal the contradictions and impracticalities of their attempts to transform the Nationalist Revolution in China into a workers' and peasants' revolution, turn the Kuomintang into a workers' and peasants' party, and carry out land revolution while maintaining alliances among different factions of the Kuomintang. These documents hold significant academic value. To introduce them to the Chinese historical academia in a timely manner, we purchased the Chinese translation rights from the original compilers of the book in the first half of 1996 and began organizing the translation efforts in early 1997. This book (two volumes) is listed as the third and fourth volumes of our compiled large-scale documentary archive series, "Archival Materials on the Communist International, the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Bolshevik), and the Chinese Revolution."
