They are Toby Litt, Sinead Morrissey, Susan Elderkin, and Romesh Gunesekera from the UK; and Chen Dan Yan, Ye Yanbin, Zhang He, and Zhang Mei from China. Over 16 days, they traveled by train across the vast land of China, which was undergoing tremendous economic transformation. Each day, several writers created new works inspired by the inspiration they encountered during their journey or by seminars, reader meetings, and reading sessions held in important cities along the way, involving literary enthusiasts and students. The writers' articles were showcased on a special website and an increasing electronic diary was updated daily, allowing everyone to log in to the website to follow their journey. Now, the writers' articles have all been collected into this bilingual Chinese-English anthology.
"The Way of Inspiration - Chinese-English Writers' Train Online" vividly records the real-life reflections of eight writers from China and the UK during their journey in a visually engaging format. For the British writers, the trip confirmed what they saw through the train windows matched their expectations. For the Chinese writers, the journey brought back memories of the past. Additionally, the Train Online trip provided the writers with an opportunity to exchange views and perspectives on life, travel, and world literature. The articles and images in the collection recreate the enjoyable and thought-provoking days of "The Way of Inspiration," as well as the vibrant and changing aspects of the Chinese landscape.
