Theoretical Research on Language Acquisition

Publish Date: 1997-02-01
Features: This book is based on the theoretical foundation of Western languages and focuses on describing and explaining the two processes of human language development using examples in both Chinese and English, as well as language development experiments. These two processes reflect, from different perspectives, both the inevitable laws of human development and the complexity and necessity of research in psychological science and linguistic science. Around the central theme of language development, the book is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter emphasizes the relationship between language development and psycholinguistics, psychology, and neuroinguistics. The second and third chapters discuss the process of normal children's language acquisition, including the development of early basic language abilities and later language awareness and communicative abilities. The fourth chapter focuses on the study of children's language disorders, discussing language development in children with disabilities or intellectual impairments. The fifth and sixth chapters concentrate on the research directions and results of second language development. Finally, the seventh chapter introduces the methodology, experimental methods, and various factors influencing experimental results in language development research. From the content of the entire book, it is not difficult to see that the author has three purposes: first, to introduce the subject of psychology of language development and its theories to a broad readership; second, to compare research and theories on language development in Chinese and English; and third, to show readers that the study of Chinese language development remains a virgin territory, awaiting further exploration by future generations.
