Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: The uterus is large, and ultrasound shows no tumors. What are the possible causes of an enlarged uterus? Thank youDoctor's answer:
Uterine hypertrophy refers to the uniform enlargement of the uterus. The fundamental pathological changes of this condition involve alterations in smooth muscle cells within the uterine muscle layer and the vessel walls. The uterus appears uniformly enlarged, with the muscular layer thickening to 2.5–3.2 cm. The cut surface is grayish-white or pinkish, with increased hardness and fibrous bundles arranged in a woven pattern. Arteries and veins are markedly dilated, with clusters of elastic fibers proliferating around newly formed vessels. It is a disease accompanied by varying degrees of uterine bleeding. The main clinical symptom is an increase in leukorrhea. Additionally, due to the proliferation of connective tissue and inflammation spreading along the paracervical region or via the uterosacral ligaments into the pelvic cavity, there may be lower back and sacral pain or a sense of heaviness and fullness in the perineum.
