Features: The four disciples—Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing—set off westward to obtain the true scriptures and return to Tang. Along the way, they subdue demons and monsters, endure countless hardships, and ultimately achieve perfect virtue and universal auspiciousness. This is the content described in the 100 chapters of The Continuation of the Journey to the West. The author of this book remains uncertain. One theory attributes it to the Ming Dynasty scholar Lan Mao, based on the Qing Dynasty Yuan Wendiàn's Dian Nan Shi Lue, which states, "Lan Mao's Continuation of the Journey to the West speaks of the essence of Buddhism, and it is different from Mei Zi's Post-Journey to the West." Another theory attributes it to Ji Kui, based on the Qing Dynasty Xing Qiling's Ji Kui Xiao Pin Zhi Wen Yin, which mentions, "He once wrote The Continuation of the Journey to the West." For this publication, the book is based on a photocopy of the Jiaqing 10th Year edition preserved in the Tenriyama Library of Japan, published by Jinjian Tang, with reference to other editions.
