Can birth control pills regulate the endocrine system?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: A friend has been suffering from breast hyperplasia and has taken some medications to treat it, but many pimples have appeared on their face. They heard that taking birth control pills can regulate endocrine function and improve skin condition, so they purchased the birth control pill "Marvelon" and are planning to take it. I would like to ask if taking birth control pills can really regulate endocrine function? Will there be any side effects?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Birth control pills contain hormones, which can regulate the endocrine system and have side effects. Here is how to treat it;
The principle is to reduce fat, dissolve keratin, disinfect, and reduce inflammation.
1. Eat less irritating foods, wash the affected area with warm water frequently. Using a sulfur-containing soap is more effective. Advise patients to avoid squeezing skin lesions with their hands and to avoid using cosmetics with high oil content and long-term use of drugs like iodine or bromine.
2. For patients primarily with acne, papules, and pustules, topical treatment alone can be used. Commonly used preparations include sulfur-containing and resorcinol-based products that have fat-reducing and keratin-dissolving effects, such as compound sulfur wash; antibiotic preparations like 1% clindamycin alcohol or 2%-4% erythromycin alcohol; and 5%-10% benzoyl peroxide gel or cream. Benzoyl peroxide has antibacterial and sebum-suppressing effects, while 0.05%-0.1% retinoic acid cream has keratin-dissolving and peeling effects.
3. For severe patients primarily with nodular or cystic lesions, or those with a large number of skin lesions and prominent inflammation, in addition to local treatment, the following methods can be considered:
(1) Oral antibiotics. Tetracycline drugs, such as tetracycline. The initial dose is 2.0g/day, reduced to 0.25-0.5g/day after significant inflammation subsides. Minocycline is taken at 100mg/day, reduced to 50mg/day for maintenance after inflammation improves; Doxycycline is taken at 200mg/day, later reduced to 100mg/day for maintenance. Erythromycin at 0.5g/day.
(2) Isotretinoin capsules, taken orally. The initial dose is 0.5-1.0mg/kg/day, generally 30-60mg/day, achieving significant
