Features: This collection of essays is one of the research outcomes of the National Education Commission's Special Research Fund Project for Doctoral Programs in Philosophy and Social Sciences in Higher Education. Ethnology is both a practical discipline and one that is constantly developing, changing, and innovating. Currently, to adapt to the tide of reform and opening-up and to serve the four modernization campaigns in ethnic minority areas, ethnology and modernization have become urgent issues facing the ethnological field. Supported by the National Education Commission's doctoral program research fund, the Institute of Ethnology at Minzu University of China organized relevant researchers to conduct theoretical discussions on this topic and carried out field investigations in certain ethnic areas. However, this is merely a preliminary attempt.
