Features: Like all of Jin Yong's other novels, The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber was originally serialized in newspapers, so there are inevitably some minor flaws in the details. Although it has been revised, some omissions remain. For example, regarding the person who injured Yu Daiyan, Yin Susu claims it was herself and her brother Yin Yewang, but the descriptions in the book at that time—regarding emotions, personality, behavior, etc.—seem more plausible for someone else. Another instance is Wu Jingcao of the Ming Dynasty's Golden Flag, whose right arm was cut off by the Inner Fire Sect's master Nie Fengjie. Later, when seeking help from Yin Liiting in the Sha Valley, the book writes, "Zhang Wuji grabs Wu Jingcao's right arm with one hand." In the continuation A Debt of Blood for the Dragon Saber, it mentions, "his right hand grips a heavy black sword" and "Wu Jingcao presents two sections of the Heaven Sword," which clearly contradict the earlier description. Due to this, books like Picking Flaws in Jin Yong's Novels have been published. However, these flaws are merely minor blemishes on a flawless jade, and they in no way diminish the greatness and success of the work. The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber also demonstrates the author's continuous exploration and pursuit in artistic description and techniques, often presenting fresh and unique perspectives. The depiction of the strange scenery on Ice Fire Island takes readers beyond the author's usual portrayals of deserts, grasslands, and Jiangnan water towns, immersing them in a completely new natural landscape and broadening their horizons. Moreover, the natural scenery of Ice Fire Island, where ice and fire coexist, harmonizes with the character of Xie Xun, who embodies the essence of the Ice Fire Sect in one person, carrying profound symbolism. The portrayal of the Ming Dynasty and the founding of the Wudang Sect add another layer of vibrant humanistic scenery to the martial arts world, following the existing sects like the Beggar Gang, Shaolin Temple, and Quanzhen Sect. When Zhang Sanfeng teaches Zhang Wuji Taijiquan and Taiji Sword to his enemies, the emphasis is on the intention behind the swordplay rather than the form, requiring one to forget the techniques entirely in order to defeat the opponent. This elevates the art of martial arts to a new realm.
