Features: The Yearbook of Listening to Wind and Rain is the annual edition of the Pen Club entering the new century. It is also the sixth annual edition following Feeling That Forest, Facing Eternity, Smoky Clouds in Hand, Guarding High Morality, and Aspiring for the Mountains. The over one hundred forty articles selected in this book continue the tradition of Pen Club writings, rich in content and profound in meaning. There are historical mists, the charm of renowned figures, the expression of individuality, and unique reflections; there is deep concern for the survival and development of humanity; there are rational calls for environmental protection and urban construction; there are in-depth discussions on the relationship between science and art; and more importantly, a collection of outstanding works by emerging talents, where emotions and thoughts shine with moving brilliance, rooted in profound humanistic heritage. First, let us celebrate the arrival of the new century! 2001 was the third millennium in the Gregorian calendar and another century, the beginning of the 21st century. The "Millennium" and "New Era" that were all the rage at the end of 1999 and the beginning of 2000 were largely perceptual, as the "1" in the counting system was replaced by "2." Such events occur only once in a thousand or even a hundred years, so it's no big deal, especially since people are naturally fond of excitement. Now, the new millennium and the new century have truly begun. The Pen Club asked me to write something about my expectations for the new century. I am now in my twilight years, and perhaps it is more the responsibility of the younger generation to look forward to the entire new century. Moreover, with such a broad scope, it would be difficult to articulate clearly, so let me focus on my hopes for the immediate future in my field.
