Can cervical erosion degree 2 be completely cured

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Two years ago, I had a medication-induced abortion. After that, my menstrual flow became less frequent than before, and I occasionally experienced menstrual cramps. Two days before my period, I feel exhausted all over, with aching waist and legs. In the last two menstrual cycles, my flow has become even lighter, and I also feel very tired on a daily basis. Yesterday, I visited a gynecologist for a check-up. The results of my vaginal discharge and urinalysis were normal, but during the gynecological examination, it was said that I have cervical erosion of degree 2. I am very concerned and would like to consult whether this will affect future fertility. Can medication cure it? How can I prevent it from worsening further? Will it affect sexual intercourse between couples?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: Active symptomatic treatment can lead to a cure.
There are many methods for treating cervical erosion, and appropriate choices can be made based on the severity of the erosion. The main methods are as follows:
  (1) Medication: For small erosion areas with shallow inflammation, the following medication treatments can be used:
① 10–20% silver nitrate: Apply locally once a week, with 2–4 applications per course.
② Potassium permanganate: Apply locally after menstruation, and repeat the medication once after 1–2 months. When using these medications, handle with care to prevent burns to the surrounding vaginal wall. Additionally, ensure sterilization during application to prevent reinfection.
  (2) Physical therapy: Used for larger erosion areas with deeper inflammation.
① Electrocautery: Use a specially designed electrocautery device to burn the erosion tissue, causing it to necrose and fall off. It is important to achieve a certain depth for effective treatment.
② Cryotherapy: Use a specially designed rapid freezing device to freeze and necrose the diseased tissue of the cervical erosion, causing it to fall off. Liquid nitrogen is commonly used as the cryogenic agent, which can lower the temperature of the cryotherapy device’s tip to -196°C. Apply it to the surface of the cervix to freeze and necrose the erosion tissue, allowing new squamous epithelial tissue to regenerate. One session is typically sufficient for a cure. Generally, there are no adverse reactions, though some patients may experience mild dizziness or lower abdominal pain.
③ Laser therapy: Often uses a carbon dioxide laser treatment device. Apply the specially designed laser treatment head to the erosion tissue of the cervix, causing it to carbonize, form a scab, and fall off, followed by the growth of new squamous epithelial tissue. One session is usually sufficient for a cure. There is no special discomfort during the procedure, and only a small number of patients may experience mild side effects.
