Features: The "Marginal Criticism Series" primarily collects literary critical writings and cultural research achievements by Chinese scholars abroad. The authors of the series are mostly former well-known critics in China who have studied overseas in recent two decades. Due to their identity, objects of study, and language, they conduct research on Chinese literature and culture in overseas academies, which essentially falls under "marginal disciplines." However, when they obtain degrees and become intellectuals abroad, they can possess marginality like true exiles. But for the authors of the "Marginal Criticism Series," "marginality" is more of an unavoidable academic situation they face rather than a conscious pursuit. What "marginality" signifies is not a rigidly opposing spatial position to the center, but the critics' wandering and navigating between the gaps of the center and center. The marginal authors appropriate various theoretically mixed strategies, adjust and organize their textual experiences, and respond to the historical situations that confront them.
