Patient's question:
Does the Down syndrome screening have a critical risk?Doctor's answer:
Hello: The critical value for the T21 screening is generally 1/270, and this result should be considered borderline. It is recommended to undergo further testing. T21 screening is only a risk assessment and cannot confirm a diagnosis. A high risk does not necessarily mean the baby has a problem, and a low risk does not guarantee the baby is definitely fine. Therefore, it is advised to undergo non-invasive DNA testing (13, 18, 21) of these three pairs of chromosomes, which only requires a blood test. The accuracy of this test is over 99%. If the test results are abnormal, the hospital usually arranges a free amniocentesis.
