Features: Wu Yi was born in Changchun City, Jilin Province in 1966. He entered the department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1985. In 1989, he graduated with a bachelor's degree and began teaching at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. In 1991, he was admitted as a graduate student under the supervision of Professor Lu Chen of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. From 1992 to 1993, he completed his graduate thesis project "Liaodong Series" and his graduation thesis "Shaping Emotion with Ink and Brush." In 1993, he graduated with a master's degree and held a solo exhibition in Beijing. He is currently a lecturer in the Mural Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In the spring of 1994, he created the "Summer Series" in a studio in Daxing County, suburban Beijing, and participated in the "Experiment in Tension: Expressive Ink Exhibition" held at the National Art Museum of China. In 1995, he traveled to Huaiyang and Mianchi in Henan Province for field studies and created the "Huaiyang Series," participating in the "Invitation Exhibition for Young Artists" held at the Central Academy of Fine Arts Gallery. He also created the "Huangcun Series." In 1996, he participated in the "Ink Joint Exhibition" held at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. He took part in the "Exhibition of Fine Chinese Paintings of the Central Academy of Fine Arts" and was interviewed by CCTV's "Art World." He also participated in the "Exhibition on the Current Situation of Contemporary Chinese Ink Painting" held at the National Art Museum of China, the "Invitation Exhibition of Ink Extension · Figure Painting" held at the Beijing International Art, the "Invitation Exhibition of New Works by Contemporary Chinese Artists in Zhuhai," and was invited to design the cover for the album of the British London National Television's large-scale documentary "China." In 1997, he participated in the "Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Drawing Art" held at the National Art Museum of China and the "’97 Invitation Exhibition of Chinese Ink Painting" also held at the National Art Museum of China. In 1998, he participated in the "Open Ink – Six Modern Artists Exhibition" (Wu Yi, Wang Jin, Li Xiaoxuan, Chen Tiejun, Shao Ge, Zhao Baosheng) held at the National Art Museum of China, the "Star of the Century – China Art Biennial Exhibition" (Canada), and the "Chronicle of the Twenty Years of Contemporary Chinese Art." In 1999, he participated in the "Third Exhibition of the Journey of the Future of the Century," the "Invitation Exhibition of Ink Extension – 99 Chinese Ink Painting Figure Portraits" held at the National Art Museum of China, and the "Urban Ink Painting" (Guangzhou, Shenzhen). In 2000, he participated in the "New China Ink Painting Exhibition" (Shanghai) and the "Shenzhen International Ink Biennial Exhibition," where he was interviewed by CCTV's "Art Star." In 2001, he held a solo exhibition at the China Academy of Art in Tsinghua University. He also participated in the "True Color of Ink – Invitation Exhibition for Contemporary Chinese Painting," the "Ink Extension – 2001 Exhibition," and the "Exhibition of Poster Design by Contemporary Chinese Artists" (Beijing, Japan, France, Italy). His works have been featured in professional publications such as Taiwan's 《》 (Lion Art), 《》 (Artist), and 《》 (Min-Yang Art), as well as mainland China's 《》 (Art), 《》 (Art Research), 《》 (Jiangsu Art Magazine), 《》 (Gallery), 《》 (Art Observation), 《》 (Art Garden), 《》 (Compendium of Contemporary Chinese Artists), 《》 (Chinese Painting Research), 《》 (Artist), 《》 (Call for Chinese Modern Ink Art), 《》 (Art Panorama), 《》 (Culture Monthly), 《》 (Poetry, Calligraphy, Painting), 《》 (Selected Modern Chinese Line Drawings), 《》 (Creative Manuscripts of Contemporary Ink Figure Painters), and 《》 (New Works Collection of Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Chinese Ink Painters). His works have been collected by museums and private collectors in China, including the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the China Academy of Art, the International Art, CCTV's TV Gallery, Shenzhen Huayun Cultural and Art Company, Shenzhen Art Museum, Guangdong Art Museum, as well as museums in Germany, the United Kingdom, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan.
