Jiangsu, as an important coastal province in China that has opened up to the outside world and emerged as an economic powerhouse in reform and development, continues to showcase new construction achievements and immense innovative vitality to the world: the national economy maintains sustained high-speed growth; urban and rural infrastructure undergoes rapid transformation; a new modern transportation network is taking shape; and the latest administrative division adjustments have begun to reveal the strategic layout of the "Three Metropolitan Circles" construction framework. It is precisely due to these new factors in the midst of development and change, as well as the shared expectations of readers and editors, that this innovative atlas, which adopts satellite remote sensing imagery and computer mapping technology, has been compiled and published.
The new edition of the Jiangsu Atlas is a comprehensive public reference map that reflects the current state of natural geographical environments, resource conditions, as well as the latest developments in socio-economy and infrastructure across the province. The atlas consists of two parts: the general map and the city (county) maps. The general map section includes: an outline map of the People's Republic of China, administrative divisions of Jiangsu, as well as maps covering Jiangsu's terrain, climate, population, economy, land transportation, shipping, tourism, and local specialties. The city (county) map section is organized into thirteen compositional units, corresponding to the ten provincial-level cities and their subordinates—Nanjing, Wuxi, Xuzhou, Changzhou, Suzhou, Nantong, Lianyungang, Huai'an, Yancheng, Yangzhou, Zhenjiang, Taizhou, and Suqian. Each unit is accompanied by satellite imagery of the major cities, photographs of famous tourist attractions, urban and suburban maps at the prefecture-level and above, and descriptive text reflecting the local conditions.
