Jilin Province is located in the central part of Northeast China. It borders Heilongjiang Province to the north, Liaoning Province to the south, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to the west, and Russia to the east. In the southeast, it shares borders with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea across the Tumen and Yalu Rivers. It lies between 122°-131° east longitude and 41°-46° north latitude. With a total area of 187,400 square kilometers, accounting for 2% of the country's total area, it spans 650 kilometers from east to west and 300 kilometers from north to south. The terrain is high in the southeast and low in the northwest, with a vast plain in the central and western regions.
Jilin Province is situated in the mid-latitude zone of the Northern Hemisphere and the eastern part of the Eurasian continent, equivalent to the northern temperate zone of China, close to the subarctic region. The eastern part is humid and rainy, while the western part is dry, windy, and prone to sandstorms, characterized by a distinct temperate continental monsoon climate. The average annual temperature in most areas is around 4°C, with the highest temperature reaching 37.8°C and the lowest temperature dropping to -39.4°C. The annual sunshine rate ranges from 50% to 70%. Precipitation decreases from east to west, ranging from 400 to 900 mm per year, with two-thirds of the annual rainfall concentrated in June, July, and August. The average snow cover in winter is about 20 cm, while in mountainous areas, it is around 40-50 cm.
Jilin Province has relatively developed aviation, railway, highway, and inland waterway transportation, forming a three-dimensional transportation network that primarily relies on railways, supplemented by aviation and highway passenger services, with inland waterway transportation as a complement.
