Features: Newly Compiled College German is developed based on the Teaching Syllabus for College German (Second Edition). This textbook is designed for undergraduate students in science, engineering, liberal arts, and management (non-German major) who are beginners in learning German, and can also serve as a basic textbook for German language training programs. With the higher requirements for university foreign language teaching in the new century, this textbook emphasizes the cultivation of students' practical language application skills, particularly communicative competence, based on the provisions and quantitative indicators of the new syllabus. Newly Compiled College German consists of four volumes, each with a student book and a teacher book. Main texts, listening comprehension, and unit vocabulary are accompanied by audio cassettes. Each volume contains ten units, each centered around a theme to provide training in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, aiming to develop students' comprehensive language abilities. Since the development of language skills is inseparable and mutually reinforcing, and language skills also require integrated application in real language environments. In comparison, Volume 2 focuses more on listening and speaking training and oral communicative activities, while also covering basic grammar. Volumes 3 and 4 continue to strengthen listening and speaking training while gradually increasing reading volume to further improve comprehensive language application skills such as reading, translation, and writing. Volume 3 consists of ten units, each comprising an introduction, main text, exercises, practical tasks, listening, reading, a brief grammar overview, and a unit vocabulary list. Each unit is approximately six hours of study, with the remaining time available for review and exams, or can be adjusted based on specific teaching needs. For teaching convenience, the following specific features of the third volume of this textbook are described:
1. Under the principle of each unit being centered around a theme, the best language samples related to German-speaking countries and social life are selected. The texts are fresh, diverse in, varied in style, practical, and rich in contemporary.
2. To help students move beyond rote memorization and improve language application skills in a relaxed and enjoyable way, various forms of communicative exercises are designed, which are context-based, easy to practice, and concise. These exercises enable students to naturally absorb and apply the learned language knowledge through repeated practice in a given context, achieving learning through communication and communication through learning, thereby enhancing learning efficiency.
3. To meet the requirements of the Teaching Syllabus for College German (Second Edition) and cultivate students' preliminary translation skills, translation exercises are designed for each unit starting from Volume 3.
4. Each unit focuses on training a specific communicative intention, aiming to help students master common phrases for that intention.
5. Grammar is naturally integrated into each theme and serves the theme. Grammar exercises emphasize fun, practicality, and diversity. Grammar introductions are tabular, concise, and easy to find, providing guidance for students' self-study.
6. The illustrations and photographs in each unit serve a teaching purpose, helping students gain a more vivid understanding of German-speaking countries and facilitating comprehension of the texts and exercises.
7. Emphasis is placed on cross-cultural communication and cultural knowledge, allowing students to expand their understanding of the cultural background of German-speaking countries while mastering language knowledge, thereby fostering cross-cultural communication skills.
8. To adapt to the development of the information age, each unit provides relevant websites related to the theme, enabling students to access more information, broaden their perspectives, expand their vocabulary, and enrich their language materials. This closely integrates traditional language teaching with modern multimedia methods.
9. Each word in the vocabulary list of every unit is accompanied by example sentences, helping students better understand the meaning and usage of the words through these examples.
