Features: Art and culture are a reflection of social consciousness, and are inseparable from the social political environment and economic foundation. The development of calligraphy art during the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties period was influenced by the relevant cultural and historical background. This paper argues that the pluralistic development of politics, economy, and culture during the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties period laid a material foundation for the regional differences in calligraphy. The formation of the Six system and the emergence of noble families provided talent support for the development of calligraphy. The rise of Xuanxue (Neo-Daoism) offered theoretical support for its development. The flourishing of Buddhism and Taoism expanded the scope of calligraphy dissemination, while the further development of commodity economy brought about social customs of calligraphy criticism and collection.
