Features: The Book Design Tutorial by Lü Jingren has long been considered a flat visual medium, confined within outdated notions of bookbinding. Designers create image-text collages on computers, and students view book design merely as a composition game within layouts, often wrapping a three-dimensional book with a flat cover. I believe book design should be a three-dimensional thinking process, a "book architecture" that shapes three-dimensional space with an injection of time concepts. It not only creates the form of a book but also, through design, allows readers to experience mutual influence and interaction between the book and themselves during the reading process. Creating the beauty of a book lies in understanding its characteristics and essence as a communication medium, and mastering the design principles of books. Books are not static decorative objects. As readers flip through them, they communicate with the book and engage in interaction. The book becomes a dynamic life form that transcends time and space. Readers gain profound insights, the pulse of life, wisdom, inspiration, and the provocation of imagination; they experience emotional expression, the rules of visual communication, the beauty of images and text, and thus enjoy the pleasure of reading. While conveying content, book designers never forget to create a design that moves from the whole to the details, from chaos to order, from space to time, from abstraction to materialization, from logical thinking to hallucinatory reverie, and from book form to communication context. This is a poetic sensory creation and a philosophical process of order control. I require students not just to arrange provided materials but to possess the awareness to recreate original information, seek cultural elements related to the text, introduce visual imagination that elevates the content, and provide the crucial "time" element that inspires readers' perceptions during book use, along with the diverse application of book design language. Book design should hold the same value as its content. The book should become a spiritual sanctuary where readers resonate, which is the core of this course.
