Features: "The Three-Character Classic" is a highly renowned educational text for young children, widely circulated and well-known for centuries. It contains rich content. Modern scholar Zhang Taiyan said, "The book first lists basic words and categories, then covers classics, histories, and the works of various schools, providing a comprehensive guide for instructing young children." This means "The Three-Character Classic" is an enlightening text with all its content included. The arrangement of its content is highly structured, reflecting the author's educational philosophy. The author believed that teaching children should prioritize etiquette, filial piety, and kindness, shaping their values, with knowledge transmission being secondary, as stated in "First filial piety and kindness, then knowledge and experience." The guidance for children should start with primary education, such as learning to read characters, followed by reading classics and the works of various schools. After mastering these, they should study history, as the text says, "When classics and works of various schools are understood, read the histories." "The Three-Character Classic" finally emphasizes the attitude and purpose of learning. It can be said that "The Three-Character Classic" is both a textbook for children to learn characters and a work discussing enlightenment education. It is rich in allusions and strong in knowledge, a text compiled under Confucianist guidance, filled with positive spirit. "The Three-Character Classic" serves a dual function: transmitting basic knowledge and traditional values. The writing style is natural and fluent, simple yet profound, sincere and heartfelt. The summary of the 5,000-year history of China in the text is condensed into just 300 characters, which has long been highly praised. "The Three-Character Classic" has many versions, and the one we use is the "Annotations and Essentials of the Three-Character Classic" by He Xingsi of Hengyang in the Qing Dynasty and Yu Tinglin of Nanhai, with a total of 1,140 characters.
