Features: Judge Edwards is the Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and a Visiting Professor at the New York University School of Law. The opinions selected in this book were written during his tenure on the Court of Appeals. Each case involves reviewing decisions made by federal district courts (federal trial courts) or administrative agencies established by Congress to enforce laws regulating specific entities or businesses. The published cases are formatted with a case caption, indicating the names of the parties, the name of the court rendering the decision, the date of argument, and the date of the decision. Following the caption, a list of counsel is provided in the order of the parties represented in the case. At the end of each opinion, the names of the three judges who heard the case on appeal and the judge who drafted the opinion are listed. These cases are only a small sample of the various types of cases heard by the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, offering only a glimpse into the activities of judges in rendering decisions and drafting legal opinions. Each case is preceded by a brief or summary that succinctly captures the facts and issues presented to the court. These summaries will help readers better understand the court's opinions. Although viewing the whole through a small part may be somewhat one-sided, and my writing style will inevitably carry a certain personal touch, these legal opinions present an ordinary panorama of the work of federal appellate judges in the United States.
