Features: In the basic disciplines of design, it is typically divided into three aspects: technical foundation, artistic foundation, and humanistic foundation. Humanistic foundation refers to historical and theoretical cultural knowledge, technical foundation refers to knowledge of natural sciences, especially in the fields of science and engineering, such as materials and processes, drafting, and computer-aided design. Artistic foundation refers to the shaping foundation of design, including the expressiveness of form, imagination, and the ability to shape and apply. The focus of this book is on the fundamental shaping of form. In the early 1980s, the basic shaping education centered around the "Three Major Compositions," which originated from the Bauhaus and spread to China through paths like Japan and Hong Kong/Taiwan, played a very important foundational role in the rise of modern design education in China. In recent years, reflection and exploration around "composition" education have become an important part of current basic teaching reform. The authors have two thoughts on this issue: First, reflection should seek its roots and revisit Bauhaus teaching philosophy. Second, composition education must keep pace with the times, embodying contemporary characteristics and aesthetic experiences, especially with the rapid development of digital technology, which has changed people's lifestyles, communication methods, and even their values and aesthetic tastes. The structure and writing approach of this book are based on these two directions of thought, focusing on the three most fundamental aspects of form shaping—plane, solid, and space—as the main content for teaching design fundamentals. Due to its positioning as a "comprehensive reference," in addition to essential theoretical knowledge points, it emphasizes exercises and the analysis of a large number of novel examples, which can be considered a feature of the book. This book is a reference for design majors in higher art colleges. It introduces the concepts and categories of design fundamentals and includes numerous exquisite design works, making it a valuable reference for teachers and students.
