From "Joyful Journey" to "Forest Path": A Comparative Study of Heidegger's and Zhuangzi's Poetic Thought

Author: Zhong Hua

Publish Date: 2006-01-01
Features: Zhuangzi is the most important thinker in laying the foundation for the pure artistic spirit of China, and Heidegger is the most influential philosopher in 20th-century Western philosophy and poetics. In the context of comprehensive "globalization," in the effort to "reconstruct the discourse of Chinese literary theory," a comparative study of their poetics is a highly meaningful topic. This book attempts to conduct a systematic clarification and in-depth comparison of the factual and theoretical connections, as well as the consistencies and differences, between Heidegger's poetics and Zhuangzi's poetics, based on "close reading of texts" and adopting the stance of "value phenomenology," primarily using the method of "cross-cultural dialogue" in comparative poetics. This systematic clarification and comparison is a first in the mainland academic community. In the context of comprehensive "globalization," in the effort to "reconstruct the discourse of Chinese literary theory," a comparative study of their poetics is a highly meaningful topic. Currently, research in this area is far from sufficient relative to its importance. This systematic clarification and comparison is a first in the mainland academic community.
