Given the diversity of discourse types, the complexity of distribution, and the subtlety of discourse usage in the study of ancient Chinese literary theory in the 20th century, this book will logically integrate the discourse forms, distribution characteristics, and production mechanisms in the "Introduction." This logical integration, as seen in this book, is a necessary and beneficial supplement to the description of the "internal history." The book focuses on the "Middle Part" and the "Lower Part."
The "Middle Part" consists of five chapters, primarily organizing and reviewing the overall research status of ancient poetry theory, ancient prose theory, ancient fiction theory, and ancient drama theory. This review basically adopts two methods: first, summarizing the "general trends" of each subfield theory research from a diachronic perspective to verify the parabolic discourse movement of 20th-century ancient literary theory research, and then reviewing key issues in each "subfield theory research" from a synchronic perspective, followed by corresponding academic reflections.
The "Lower Part" also ensures that each topic is elaborated on both diachronically and synchronically, with the "problem awareness" being the consistent thread. The academic history framework adopted in the "Special Topic Research" section, with problems as the core, can be organically integrated with the aforementioned consistent "problem awareness." This is precisely where the book puts great effort.
