Features: The "Nine Yuan Series" is self-explanatory, with each book priced at nine yuan. Offering books at low prices to benefit readers has always been a means of promoting excellent works in the publishing industry and one of the traditions of the People's Literature Publishing House. The purpose of editing and publishing the Nine Yuan Series is to inherit this fine tradition, allowing outstanding literary works to be better disseminated and shared as spiritual nourishment for contemporary literature in a broader scope. The "Nine Yuan Series, Volume I" includes twenty outstanding middle-length novels that emerged in the past three decades, hence the name "Middle-Length Melodies." In the future, there will be additional volumes, and other literary works in various categories will also be considered for inclusion in the Nine Yuan Series. It should be noted that some excellent middle-length novels that should have been included in Volume I were unfortunately excluded due to unresolved copyright or technical issues. We deeply regret this and kindly ask for the understanding of our readers. Editorial Department of the People's Literature Publishing House, December 2005
