Laozi's philosophy can be considered "feminine philosophy," filled with a gentle spirit, paying great attention to the soft and weak aspects. This has had a profound influence on the later emergence of Taoism. Laozi teaches that one should be like water in life. In society, choose to do humble tasks and do not seek fame or glory. Even if one achieves greatness, it is illusory, temporary, and not real. All actions of seeking fame and profit are ridiculous, as they are ultimately aimed at standing out, only to end in failure.
The way of life advocated by Laozi is "remaining undisturbed by fame or disgrace." Later Chinese people were influenced by this, even believing that "one should fear their name being known by others." In Laozi's view, people's minds should also be like the vast and profound ocean, deep and boundless. In the lowest, flattest, and most tranquil places, they should contain all of the world.
