Zhanjiang (1610-1664), courtesy name Jiang Shi, name Tao, took the dharma name Hongren after ordaining, styled Zhanjiang Xueren, Zhanjiang Seng, also styled Wuzhi, Plum Blossom Ancient Monk. He was a native of She County, Huizhou, Jiangnan in the Ming Dynasty (now She County, Anhui Province). He was born in the 38th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1610) and died on the 22nd day of the 12th lunar month of the 2nd year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1663), at the age of 54. His father died young, and his family was poor, but Zhanjiang was diligent in studying and had lofty aspirations. He studied under Wang Wuyi, reading the Five Classics, and practicing for the imperial examinations. However, he was born in an era of decline, and the corrupt politics of the late Ming Dynasty made it impossible for him to realize his ambitions. After reaching the age of 30, he still achieved nothing. Later, the Qing army entered the pass and advanced southward, further shattering his ideals and ambitions. Out of his loyalty to the Ming Dynasty, he went to Fujian to join the Tang Wang, but ultimately could not save the situation. In extreme disappointment, he shaved his head and became a monk on Wuyishan in the fourth year of the Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1647). The 20 pages of landscape paintings and albums in this collection are classic works collected by the Shanghai Museum, Anhui Museum, and the Palace Museum. They have diverse styles and prominent features, making them suitable for study and practice.
